The ecodesign research community is a young, yet fairly well established community of researchers, originating from a range of disciplines, including industrial design, engineering design, anthropology, applied psychology, environmental technology and environmental analysis. Over the last decade especially, the community has arranged itself in a number of different constellations, as the research field has begun to mature and create its own identity.

Since the formation of the Design Society there has been talk about the formation of an Ecodesign SIG, and a series of workshops have been organised and executed at various venues since 2001.

Today the EcoDesign SIG has found its identity and role, where we are establishing a worldwide ecodesign network, through the organisation of activities, designed to share results, create initiatives and generally raise the level of awareness in the implementation of ecodesign into industry.
